Recently, the trade barriers are not only tariffs but also product quality in terms of international standards and country regulations. The non-tariff barrier is the vital obstacle of Thai exporters. Thai government provides supportive policy to encourage the business of the private sector. At the same time, the private sector is improving their productivity and product quality in the entire production process themselves complied with the international standards.
The database of Department of Science Service (DSS), Ministry of Science and Technology shows that there are 6,753 laboratories in Thailand consist of university and institution 2,222 labs, government 1,133 labs, public enterprises 356 labs and private sector 3,042 labs.
After considering the survey on quality system by DSS, only 14.59% of laboratories are ISO/IEC 17025 certified. The 85.41% of laboratories are still not complied with this standards. This means they should comply the quality system to cope with the non-tariff barriers and the industry expanding. The lab infrastructures, instruments, equipment and well-trained human resource are required.
